The Steak House. The one and only, with proper Charcoal Grill and Premium Steak cuts and Dry Aging.
.
French Quercy Rack of Lamb. 16Oz - $680 This was recommended by a foodie friend, and it was truly exceptional indeed, after being cooked well on the charcoal bed. The portion seemed bigger than the size suggested. ~ 8/10
.
Dry Aged for 24 Days, Cold Smoked, USDA Prime Porterhouse 20Oz, Medium Rare - $1080 It’s not often when you see a properly Dry Aged and Cold Smoked combination. The charcoal grill already imparts some smokiness onto the steak but prior to that it has carried some cold smoked aroma. Double smoked meat, interesting indeed. Considering the massive size of this slab of meat, the price is reasonable. Properly charred with beef and grilling flavours. Great in all aspects. ~ 9/10
.
Lobster Truffled Macaroni – $90 Reasonably priced, this was cooked perfectly with a lot of condensed lobster taste with some truffle paste taste. The pasta of Macaroni was done good enough. A Must Order here. ~ 8/10
Domaine Chandon Brut Sparkling from Victoria, Australia. To start off the night.
.
A quick check of the Portuguese Tarts from the Buffet Table.
.
差
Not that attractive a Bread Basket though, as is expected in this isolated hotel setting. Didn't really touch it.
.
White Asparagus Veloute with Crispy Focaccia Croutons. $78 Asparagus arrive in from Holland and the thickest and in season ones are chosen. Quite creamy and refreshing as a veloute. ~ 7/10
.
Yering Station 2008 Chardonnay, Yarra Valley, Victoria, Australia. Just drank this same vintage at Yering Station recently myself - this bottle had more of a toasted muesli and honeysuckle, lemony note. Quite light bodied, refreshing. Liked it better than the above sparkling brut, also from the same Australian Yarra Valley region and both are more towards a French style.
.
Gratinated White and Green Asparagus, Soft Poached Farm Egg, Hollandaise Sauce. $198 - Nicely done, the Gratinated Hollandaise sauce has a lemon scent to it with a slight sourness, which is how it should be. White asparagus were of the thicker girthed types from Holland and very sweet. With a flowing egg on top to help it all. Great dish. ~ 7/10
.
White Asparagus Risotto with Sauteed Chili Prawns - $288 A bit too peppery today. The prawns were done well. The Risotto was also cooked creamy and al dente, mixed with chunks of asparagus and carrots ~ 6.9/10
.
Prosciutto Ham, Potatoes, White Asparagus - Our dining companion is from Germany and said this combination together with Hollandaise sauce, is a common food item back at home. The combination of the flavours worked very well indeed. The trick is to eat them all in 1 single bite! Really loved this dish. ~ 8/10
.
The side of Tenderloin, Medium Rare. With a Chimichurri type of buttery herbed sauce. For a tenderloin, it has decent beef flavour.
.
Dreyers Ice Cream. Available on the weekdays. Haagen Dazs is only available on the weekends.
.
Pool Side - Some of the White Asparagus dishes were done quite well and will only last until end of May 2010. I thought some of the dishes were a little over-priced and the buffet is missing a few more attractive items to draw the crowd in! When there's a will, there's a way. The White Asparagus menu in season was quite good in contrast. But their normal buffet items do seem a little lacking in choices for now.
